So, today I intend to compile the list of the scientists my students choose to research. I asked them on Friday to pick a scientist they could do their project on and today I will find out which scientists they chose. After we discuss who gets which scientist I will go over the rubric thoroughly. I have examples of past students works that I can show so everyone knows what I expect. This assignment is not intended to be difficult, but instead, it is to help show the students where our current science knowledge is derived.
There are some great short videos on Brainpop.com that talk about some of the scientists the students could choose. Brainpop's username is elkinsms and the password is gearup. We will watch a few in class to help the students get an idea for how to research this project. Most teachers do not consider Wikipedia a creditable source for research and perhaps they are right, but I suggest starting there. Wikipedia is a great resource if it is understood that not everything on Wikipedia can be trusted. Start there and then verify the research with other sources.
A seating chart is also in the plans today. This will help me get the student's names down.
The start up for today is "Name one famous scientist AND what they are famous for."
